Spark Media Fun Day brings out the industry's wild side

September 07 2023 By Spark Media fun day, events

'Be extraordinary' was the theme of the Spark Media Fun Day, held on 24 August 2023 at Old Parks Sports Club in Randburg. And that's exactly what our fantastic clients were - extraordinary! They arrived in their most crazy, zany and colourful outfits ready to play bowls and padel, and test their wisdom and wit in our general knowledge quiz.

Our masters of ceremonies, Chris Halstead, head of sales and Ferhana Naran, head of finance, kept the day's programme running smoothly, while actor and comedy content creator, Themba Behrens, hilariously facilitated the quiz.

Sparky, the papier mâché giraffe and Spark Media mascot for the day, was created from scratch together by all team members, including Spark's newly recruited interns.

Spark Media group executive, Rob Fedder, gave a word of thanks and appreciation towards the end of the day's proceedings, acknowledging our clients for not only taking time out of their day to attend the Fun Day, but also for so enthusiastically participating in the events.

Social events such as this one are invaluable to the Spark team, as they help us foster lasting relationships with our clients, agencies and other industry stakeholders. All parties involved in our business are instrumental to helping us grow, and reach communities across South Africa through impactful and targeted print advertising.

"All one needs to do is open up your local paper on a weekly basis to see how important this platform is for retail advertisers. Often, more than half the bulk of the paper is taken up by the advertiser inserts. It is obvious that this works for them, because if it didn't, retailers would stop spending money to insert them," commented Richard Lord, Managing Director at Starcom on the efficacy of local papers and the advertising opportunities they offer.

Media agencies that participated in the Fun Day included our long-standing clients Mediashop, Group M, Carat, Dentsu, Ebony & Ivory, and Red Cherry. A small prize giving ceremony rounded off the afternoon, with the day's winners being announced.

There's no doubt, the Spark Media Fun Day was an extraordinary success, made possible by the passionate participation of the entire Spark team, our local newspaper branches and printers, and of course, our industry friends, both clients and agencies.

See you all at the next one!
