Randfontein Herald

The Randfontein Herald first appeared as a national newspaper in 1935 and was published by Amalgamated Press in Krugersdorp. This paper covered the nuclear bomb attack on Hiroshima, the first airplane, the visit by Queen Elizabeth and so much more. Local news was covered extensively with articles ranging from comings and goings of the then new mayor to entertainment to the Robinson Hall. Only one page was available for Afrikaans news. The main back page banner boasted that it was the only Afrikaans news page for the Randfontein municipal area. Victor Lewis sold the paper to the Caxton Group who owns it to this day.
